Walther PPK 7.65mm, MFG 1942, Wartime Police Contract, Gray Bakelite Grip

The Walther PPK was manufactured throughout the Second World War at the Carl Walther Waffenfabrik in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, serving as a standard sidearm for military officers, police, and various entities of the Third Reich. PPKs bearing the Eagle/C acceptance stamp were produced under police contract, with the marking applied by Walther's in house police acceptance inspector. As wartime production demands increased through 1942 and beyond, focus was diverted from finish, seeing visible changes in production style above approximately serial 350000K. Most notably, these models shifted from a polished blue finish to a crude, military, finish and featured external slide serialization, a characteristic only previously seen on special contracts. Furthermore, a transition in grip color from brown to pale gray and subsequently black can be observed, with gray being the least common.

This example is serial numbered 386655K, manufactured in 1942 under police contract as indicated by the Eagle/C acceptance stamp on the left side of the frame. Consistent with its production range, the slide is externally serialized in conjunction with the frame and bears an Eagle/N proof, along with the barrel. The pistol displays a wartime milled finish in excellent condition and is fitted with a scarce gray bakelite grip, 60 degree safety, and a lanyard loop at the base of the grip. Accompanied by one period correct magazine. No additional accessories included.

Barrel is in exceptional, nearly pristine condition, with a bright, shiny bore and sharp rifling. Slide and frame retain roughly 90% of their original finish. Grip has a hairline crack through the right side and commonly seen crack through spine, which appears to have been partially repaired.
