1979 Winchester 9422 XTR .22
The Winchester Model 9422 was introduced in 1972 as a rimfire lever action intended to replicate the size, weight, and handling characteristics of the centerfire Model 94. Unlike many rimfire lever guns that used simplified mechanisms, the 9422 was designed with a robust internal system and solid steel receiver, giving it a reputation for smooth operation and durability. The rifle feeds from a tubular magazine and ejects spent cases from the top of the receiver, maintaining the traditional Winchester lever action layout.
The XTR variant represented an upgraded configuration within the 9422 lineup and is typically recognized by its higher finish quality and walnut furniture. This example features the characteristic high gloss walnut stock with deep blued metal finish often associated with XTR models produced during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The rifle uses a straight grip stock with barrel band fore-end, adjustable rear sight, and a ramped front blade sight. Many shooters regard the 9422 series as one of the smoothest rimfire lever actions ever produced, and production continued until 2005 when the model was discontinued. Original box included.
