Winchester Model 12, 12 Gauge Pump Action Shotgun, Hydro-Coil Stock, Manufactured 1953
The Winchester Model 12 is a hammerless, internally cocked pump action shotgun produced by Winchester from 1912 through 1964, with limited production continuing afterward. Designed by Thomas Crossley Johnson, the Model 12 earned a reputation for its milled steel receiver, smooth cycling action, and clean lines. Unlike many competitors that used stamped or brazed components, Model 12 receivers were machined from solid steel forgings, contributing to the shotgun's durability and tight tolerances. The Model 12 is slam fire capable and uses a cross bolt safety located at the front of the trigger guard. The design proved popular across sporting, law enforcement, and military applications, with total production exceeding approximately two million units during the standard production era.
The Hydro-Coil stock is an aftermarket recoil absorbing system consisting of a two piece buttstock with a hydraulic component between the halves that dampens felt recoil. The system was marketed primarily to competitive trap and skeet shooters seeking reduced fatigue during extended shooting sessions. The Hydro-Coil assembly is distinctly recognizable by its synthetic construction and integrated recoil mechanism.
This example was manufactured in 1953 and is chambered in 12 gauge with a 2 3/4 inch chamber. It is fitted with a 28 inch barrel and a fixed full choke. The Hydro-Coil stock and forend are white/ivory in color with black checkering and a black buttpad. Length of pull measures roughly 14.25 inches. No original box or accessories included.
