Winchester Model 1895 .30-40 Krag (.30 Army), MFG 1915

The Winchester Model 1895 is a lever action rifle designed by John Moses Browning and manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms beginning in 1895. It was the last lever action rifle designed by Browning for Winchester and represented a significant departure from earlier lever action designs by incorporating a non-detachable box magazine housed beneath the receiver rather than a tubular magazine. This configuration eliminated the safety concern of cartridge primers contacting bullet tips under recoil in a tubular magazine, allowing the Model 1895 to safely chamber pointed projectiles and full power military cartridges. The .30 Army chambering, formally designated .30-40 Krag, was adopted by the United States military in 1892 and was among the original chamberings offered in the Model 1895 at its introduction.

This example was manufactured in 1915 and is chambered in .30 Army (.30-40 Krag). The rifle is fitted with a 28 inch blued barrel. The rear sight is a Marble adjustable semi buckhorn, and the front sight is a blade with a gold bead. The walnut stock is fitted with a crescent steel buttplate. No original box or accessories included.
