Winchester Model 1886 .33 WCF, MFG 1905
The Winchester Model 1886 is a lever action rifle designed by John Moses Browning and introduced by Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1886. It was developed to handle the large, powerful cartridges of the era that the earlier Model 1876 could not reliably support. The action uses dual vertically sliding locking bolts that engage the bolt body, operated by a lever actuated toggle link system. This design provided exceptional strength relative to its contemporaries and allowed the 1886 to chamber cartridges ranging from .45-70 Government to .33 WCF. The Model 1886 was manufactured from 1886 through 1935, with approximately 159,994 rifles produced.
This example was manufactured in 1905 and is chambered in .33 WCF. The .33 WCF (Winchester Center Fire) cartridge was introduced in 1902 specifically for the Model 1886, offering a modern smokeless powder cartridge suitable for heavy game in a lever action platform. It is fitted with a 24 inch round blued barrel and a full length tubular magazine. The rifle features a walnut stock with a curved steel buttplate and a walnut forend. The front sight is a Marble's Sheard with gold bead, and the rear sight is an adjustable semi buckhorn. No original box or accessories included.
