Webley & Scott Model 1909 9mm Browning Long

The Webley & Scott Model 1909 is a full size semi automatic pistol chambered in 9mm Browning Long (9x20SR), manufactured by Webley & Scott Ltd. of Birmingham, England. The Model 1909 was developed as part of Webley's series of military and service grade automatic pistols produced in the early twentieth century, building on the earlier .32 and .38 caliber Webley automatic designs. The pistol operates on a short recoil, locked breech system utilizing Webley's characteristic V spring mechanism and a sloping lug engagement between the barrel and slide to lock and unlock during the recoil cycle. The action uses an external hammer with a single action trigger. The Model 1909 features a grip safety integrated into the backstrap, a manual safety on the left side of the frame, a heel mounted magazine release, and a slide release located on the top of the slide. The Model 1909 in 9mm Browning Long was produced in limited numbers and is closely related to the subsequent Model 1910 and Model 1913, the latter of which was adopted by the Royal Horse Artillery and Royal Navy. These Webley service automatics are notable for their robust construction and represent a significant chapter in early British semi automatic pistol development.

This example is chambered in 9mm Browning Long and features a blued steel frame and slide with a 5.0 inch barrel. The pistol is fitted with checkered hard rubber grips. Accompanied by one magazine, no additional accessories included.
