The Valmet M88 Hunter is a Finnish semi-automatic sporting rifle manufactured by Valmet in Jyvaskyla, Finland. Built on the Kalashnikov operating system, the M88 Hunter utilizes a long stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt, adapting the proven AK platform into a traditional sporting configuration suitable for hunting and target shooting. The M88 Hunter was produced in several chamberings including .308 Winchester, .243 Winchester, and .30-06 Springfield. The rifle features a two piece checkered walnut stock with a traditional sporting profile, rubber buttpad, and sling attachment points consisting of a stud in the bottom of the buttstock and a sling ring on the left side of the gas block. Standard sights consist of a post front sight within protective ears and a flip up rear notch sight. The top cover incorporates a scope rail for optics mounting. The M88 Hunter feeds from proprietary detachable box magazines.

This example bears serial number 399113 and is chambered in .30-06 Springfield with a 22 inch blued barrel. The safety system uses a dual lever arrangement consisting of the standard AK pattern selector lever on the right side of the receiver with an auxiliary thumb lever attached to it, allowing the shooter to manipulate the safety with the thumb of the firing hand. Imported into to the United States by Stoeger Industries of South Hackensack, New Jersey. Accompanied by one 5-round magazine, no original box or additional accessories included.
