The Nagant M1895 is a steel frame revolver using a side loading gate and ejector rod rather than a swing out cylinder. Its defining feature is its gas seal system -- when the hammer is cocked, the cylinder moves forward and the cartridge case enters the rear of the barrel, sealing the cylinder gap. This reduces gas escape and allows the revolver to be effectively suppressed. It holds seven cartridges and operates in both double action and single action.

The revolver bears the Imperial Tula Arsenal marking (Императорскій Тульскій) on the frame.  The presence of the Imperial arsenal text identifies the revolver as manufactured during the Tsarist production period prior to later Soviet markings, although it appears some of the manufacturing marks have been scrubbed. Accompanied by a holster and lanyard.
