The Steyr Scout is a lightweight bolt action rifle chambered in .308 Winchester and built around Steyr’s SBS bolt system and a gray glass reinforced polymer stock. The rifle uses a 19 inch cold hammer forged barrel and maintains an overall weight of approximately 6.6 pounds, emphasizing portability while retaining the capability of a full power rifle cartridge. The stock geometry and overall layout are designed for balanced carry and rapid shouldering, with a compact overall length and integral mounting rail for optics.

The rifle incorporates several integrated features that distinguish it from conventional bolt action designs. A folding bipod is built into the fore-end of the stock, allowing supported shooting without additional equipment. The buttstock contains a compartment for a spare magazine, enabling a second loaded magazine to be carried within the rifle itself. The detachable magazine system also allows a magazine to be partially seated in a reserve position, functioning as a magazine cut off while still keeping ammunition immediately available.
