Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece (Pre-Model 17) .22 LR, 6" Barrel, MFG 1948
The Smith & Wesson K-22 Masterpiece is a double action/single action revolver chambered in .22 Long Rifle, built on the medium K frame. Originally introduced in 1946 as the third model K-22, the Masterpiece designation reflected its intended role as a premium target revolver for competitive bullseye shooting and precision practice. The K-22 Masterpiece incorporated a short throw hammer and trigger mechanism engineered for a light, crisp trigger pull, paired with a micrometer click adjustable rear sight and a Patridge front sight to maximize accuracy potential. The revolver uses a five screw frame configuration, with two sideplate screws, one trigger guard screw, one grip screw, and one screw forward of the trigger guard securing the cylinder stop spring. When Smith & Wesson introduced numerical model designations in 1957, the K-22 Masterpiece became the Model 17.
This example is serial number K23090, manufactured in 1948. The revolver features a 6 inch barrel with a blued finish throughout and is fitted with checkered walnut target grips with S&W medallions. No original box or accessories included.
