The Smith & Wesson Model 629-4 Trail Boss is a double action/single action revolver chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, built on the large stainless steel N frame. The Trail Boss was produced as an exclusive distribution model for RSR Group, one of the largest firearms wholesalers in the United States. Configured as a compact, carry-oriented .44 Magnum revolver suited to field use and trail defense, the Trail Boss features a 3 inch barrel fitted with Magna-Port barrel porting, which vents propellant gases upward through precision cut trapezoidal ports near the muzzle to reduce muzzle rise under recoil. The short barrel and ported configuration produce a revolver that balances compactness with improved controllability when firing full power .44 Magnum loads.  The right side of the frame is engraved "Trail Boss", identifying the model designation. The 629-4 engineering change incorporated updates to the internal mechanism including the elimination of the barrel pin and changes to the cylinder stop stud. As a pre-lock production revolver, the Trail Boss uses a traditional hammer mounted firing pin and does not incorporate the frame mounted internal lock that Smith & Wesson introduced in 2001.

This example features an "RSR" serial prefix and stainless steel finish throughout with a fluted cylinder. The revolver is fitted with a ramp front sight with a red insert, micrometer click adjustable rear sight, and textured wood grips with finger grooves. No original box or accessories included.
