Smith & Wesson Model 60-1 Ashland Shooter Supply Special.38 Special, 2" Barrel, Adjustable Sights, Stainless
The Smith & Wesson Model 60 is a double action/single action revolver built on the stainless steel J frame, introduced in 1965 as the first production stainless steel revolver. The standard Model 60 was a fixed sight, snub nose revolver chambered in .38 Special, conceived as a stainless counterpart to the blued Model 36 Chief's Special. The Ashland Special is a limited production distributor exclusive configuration produced for Ashland Shooter Supply of Ashland, Kentucky. These revolvers are distinguished from standard production Model 60s by the addition of an adjustable rear sight and a tall shark fin style front sight, features not cataloged on the standard two inch barrel Model 60 at the time of production. The adjustable sights provided the precision sight regulation typically associated with longer barreled target revolvers in a compact, concealable package.
This example is an Ashland Special configuration chambered in .38 Special with a 2 inch barrel and a stainless steel finish throughout. The revolver is fitted with the Ashland Special's characteristic adjustable rear sight and tall shark fin front sight, and carries the ALU serial number prefix associated with this limited distributor run. No original box or accessories included.
