The Smith & Wesson Model 24, originally designated the 1950 .44 Target, is an N-frame revolver chambered in .44 Special. Introduced in 1950 as a modernized successor to earlier .44 Special Hand Ejector target revolvers, the 1950 .44 Target featured a redesigned short throw hammer, ribbed barrel, and micrometer click adjustable sights built to the standards expected of a premium target revolver. The model received its numerical designation as the Model 24 in 1957. Production was discontinued in 1966, but the model was reintroduced periodically in limited runs due to sustained collector and shooter demand. The dash 3 engineering change incorporated several internal modifications. The Model 24-3 was produced in a notable run beginning in 1983 in both 4 inch and 6.5 inch barrel lengths.

This example features a 4 inch barrel with a bright blue finish throughout. The revolver is fitted with checkered Goncalo Alves target grips, a .265 inch target trigger, and a .400 inch serrated target hammer. Sights consist of a black ramp front sight paired with a Smith & Wesson micrometer click adjustable rear sight. Based on the serial number, this revolver is believed to have been manufactured in 1983 or 1984.
