The Smith & Wesson Model 22 is a large frame, double action/single action revolver built on the N-frame platform, chambered in .45 ACP. The Model 22 traces its lineage to the Model 1950, one of S&W's classic military revolvers designed around the .45 ACP cartridge. The rimless .45 ACP cartridge requires full-moon or half-moon clips for headspacing and extraction in a revolver cylinder, and the use of moon clips allows rapid loading and unloading of all six rounds simultaneously.
