The Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 is a double action/single action revolver chambered in .38 S&W Special, built on the medium K frame. The Military & Police was introduced in 1899 as the Hand Ejector and evolved through a series of engineering changes over the following decades. The Model of 1905 designation was applied beginning with the 1905 redesign, which incorporated changes to the cylinder stop and hand mechanism. The 4th Change, produced from 1915 through 1942, introduced further refinements to the internal mechanism and represented the longest and most prolific production run of the 1905 series. This revolver became one of the most widely issued law enforcement and military sidearms of the early twentieth century and served as the direct predecessor to the Model 10 when Smith & Wesson adopted numerical model designations in 1957. The 4th Change uses a five screw frame configuration, with two sideplate screws, one trigger guard screw, one grip screw, and one screw forward of the trigger guard securing the cylinder stop spring. Sights consist of a half moon front sight and a fixed rear sight integral to the top strap.

This example was produced in the early 1920's and bears the serial 376474 on the frame, cylinder, and barrel. The left side of the barrel is marked "Smith & Wesson" and the top of the barrel reads "Smith & Wesson Springfield Mass. U.S.A. Patented Feb. 6. 06. Sept. 14. 09. Dec. 29. 14". The right side of the barrel is marked "38 S.&W. Special CTG". The revolver is fitted with checkered walnut grips with diamond reinforcements. No original box or accessories included.
