The Savage Model 99C Series A is a hammerless lever action rifle that feeds from a detachable box magazine rather than the internal rotary magazine used in most other Model 99 variants. The action employs a vertically traveling breechblock operated by the finger lever, with an internal striker serving as the firing mechanism in place of an external hammer. The "C" suffix in the model designation identifies the detachable magazine configuration, while "Series A" denotes a later production series manufactured in the 1990s.

This example is chambered in 7mm-08 Remington with a 22 inch barrel marked "SAVAGE MODEL 99C SERIES A CAL. 7MM-08 REM" and "PATENT 3,281,979 WESTFIELD.MASS.U.S.A.". The receiver and barrel are blued, while the lever is finished in color case hardening. The rifle is fitted with a walnut Monte Carlo stock with checkering at the pistol grip area and a walnut forend with checkering on the underside and a finger groove. Sling swivels are installed at the stock and forend. The stock is fitted with a rubber buttpad, which has become quite hard. Sights consist of a gold bead blade front sight and a Williams adjustable rear sight. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting. The pistol grip is missing its glued medallion. Accompanied by one aftermarket detachable box magazine, with bolt hold open. No original box or accessories included.
