Savage Model 99C Series A .308 Winchester
The Savage Model 99C is a lever action rifle and a variant of the long running Model 99 series, which was originally designed by Arthur Savage and introduced in 1899. The 99C variant was introduced in 1965 and departed from earlier Model 99 designs by replacing the internal rotary magazine with a detachable box magazine, providing faster reloading capability. The action uses a rotary bolt with a cocking indicator that protrudes from the upper tang when the rifle is cocked. The hammerless design encloses the firing mechanism entirely within the receiver. The 99C was offered in several chamberings suited to medium and large game, including .308 Winchester, .243 Winchester, and .284 Winchester. The Series A designation indicates a production series that incorporated updated cosmetic and minor design refinements to the Model 99C line.
This example is chambered in .308 Winchester and is fitted with a 22 inch blued barrel. The rifle features a walnut stock with diamond pattern checkering and a walnut forend. Sights consist of a blade front sight and a flip up rear sight. One detachable box magazine is included. No original box or additional accessories included.
