The Sig Sauer P229 is a compact DA/SA semi automatic pistol built on an alloy frame, designed for duty, law enforcement, and personal defense use. The P229 operates on a short recoil, locked breech system utilizing a modified Browning cam action. The slide is machined from stainless steel bar stock rather than stamped, distinguishing the P229 from the P228 it succeeded. The Combat variant is a factory configured model featuring a flat dark earth hard anodized alloy frame paired with a black Nitron finished stainless steel slide. The Combat model includes SIGLITE night sights with self luminous tritium inserts for low light target acquisition, a short trigger, front cocking serrations machined into the slide, and an M1913 Picatinny accessory rail machined into the dust cover for mounting lights and laser devices.
