The SIG Sauer P220 Compact is a compact DA/SA semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP, operating on a short recoil, locked breech system with a modified Browning cam locking mechanism. The P220 platform was originally developed by SIG and J.P. Sauer in the 1970s and was the first of the classic SIG P-series pistols. The Compact variant reduces the standard P220's dimensions with a shortened slide, barrel, and grip, producing a more concealable package while maintaining the single stack .45 ACP magazine configuration and the full size P220's operating controls and manual of arms. This variant features an extended beavertail for improved grip purchase and enhanced protection against slide bite beyond what the standard P220 Compact beavertail provides.
