Springfield M1A SOCOM 16 7.62x51mm, MK14 Mod 0 EBR Clone, Sage EBR Stock, Leupold Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5x20mm, MFG June 2009
The MK14 Mod 0 Enhanced Battle Rifle was developed as a designated marksman and close quarters battle rifle for United States Naval Special Warfare. The program, executed by Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division from 2004 to 2005, involved pulling M14 rifles from military storage and rebuilding them into modernized weapon systems using the Sage International EBR chassis. The Sage chassis replaced the traditional wooden or fiberglass stock with an aluminum and steel chassis system incorporating multiple Picatinny rail segments for mounting optics, lighting, laser aiming devices, vertical foregrips, and bipod adapters, along with a collapsible buttstock. Subsequent programs built on the Mod 0 foundation, producing variants including the Mod 1, Mod 2, EBR RI, and Mod 0 SEI.
This rifle is a Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM 16 manufactured in June 2009, configured as a MK14 Mod 0 EBR clone. The SOCOM 16 variant uses a 16.25 inch barrel with a short length gas system. The factory stock has been replaced with a gray Sage International M14 EBR chassis fitted with black Kydex panels and a Sage foregrip mounted to the lower handguard rail. The factory muzzle brake has been replaced with a Smith Enterprise Vortex flash hider kit for the SOCOM 16 (PN 2001V). The gas system has been fitted with a Smith Enterprise SOCOM 16 gas plug (PN 2079), a shorter plug design providing increased gas volume and compatibility with sound suppressors. A Knight's Armament Company bipod Picatinny adapter (NSN 1005-01-468-0350) is mounted to the forward rail with a Harris Series 1A2 BRM bipod installed.
The iron sights have been replaced to accommodate the EBR chassis profile. The rear sight is an XS Sight Systems 1.25 rear aperture, and the front sight is an XS Sight Systems M14 EBR USN2 Version front sight post at .580 inch height. These sights are specific to the M14 EBR platform, providing a sight picture designed for the rail height and cheek weld geometry of the Sage chassis.
The optic is a Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm MR/T (Mid Range/Tactical), serial number 459704Y, equipped with the illuminated Special Purpose Reticle. The Mark 4 MR/T was produced for military and law enforcement use as a variable power optic suited to engagements from close quarters out to intermediate range. The scope uses a 30mm main tube and is mounted in Badger Ordnance 30mm MK14 Mod 0 EBR scope rings (PN 1005-306-29) at 1.25 inch height, purpose built for the EBR platform to provide correct eye alignment over the Sage chassis rail.
Accompanied by one 20-round magazine, one 10-round magazine, and original Springfield box.
