St. Etienne Lebel 1886 M93

The Lebel Model 1886 M93 was the standard French service rifle introduced alongside the 8x50R Lebel cartridge, the first military smokeless powder cartridge adopted for widespread service. Manufactured at several French state arsenals including St. Étienne (MAS), the rifle uses a two lug bolt action and tubular under barrel magazine system holding eight rounds, loaded individually through the receiver. The rifle remained the primary French infantry arm through the early stages of the First World War and continued in service in various roles afterward.

This example is marked for Manufacture d’Armes de Saint-Étienne and represents the updated M93 configuration which incorporated strengthening improvements to the original Model 1886 design. The stock displays a very dark oil finish resulting from repeated oil treatment and age.
