The Remington Model 700 5-R is a bolt action rifle that incorporates 5-R rifling, a five groove asymmetric land and groove profile where the lands are radiused rather than cut with sharp edges and are staggered so that each land is opposite a groove rather than another land. This rifling geometry reduces bullet deformation during engraving and is designed to improve accuracy and ease of cleaning compared to conventional rifling. The 700 5-R is built on the standard Remington 700 action, a two lug bolt design with a recessed bolt face, plunger ejector, and a receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounting. A two position thumb safety is located on the right side of the receiver behind the bolt handle. The rifle feeds from an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate released by a catch inside the trigger guard.

This example is chambered in .308 Winchester with a stainless steel barrel marked "5-R Tactical Rifling 1 IN 11 1/4" TWIST." The rifle is fitted with a stainless steel barreled action and an HS Precision composite stock reinforced with fiberglass and Kevlar over a full length aluminum bedding block, featuring a distinctive black finish with a spruce web pattern.
