The Remington Model 552 Speedmaster is a semi-automatic rimfire rifle introduced by Remington Arms Company in 1957. The 552 is designed to cycle .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably without any manual adjustment, a capability achieved through its blowback operating system. The rifle feeds from an inner tubular magazine housed beneath the barrel, loaded through a port in the magazine tube. The charging handle is located on the left side of the receiver. The 552 uses a cross bolt safety positioned at the rear of the trigger guard. Early production Speedmaster rifles were fitted with plain walnut stocks and forends without checkering, and featured a polished blue finish on the barrel and receiver. 

This example was manufactured in February 1960, as indicated by the LG date code stamped on the barrel. The rifle does not bear a serial number. The barrel measures 24 inches. Sights consist of a blade front sight and a step-adjustable rear sight. No original box or accessories included.
