The Redhawk was designed from the ground up as a magnum revolver, featuring a one piece frame with a broad top strap and integral barrel mounting system that provides exceptional strength and rigidity. The cylinder employs a triple locking mechanism, engaging at the crane, the rear of the cylinder, and the bottom of the frame for a tight and consistent lockup. The action incorporates Ruger's transfer bar safety system, allowing all six chambers to be safely carried loaded. The .45 Colt/.45 ACP variant uses a single cylinder designed to accept both cartridges without moon clips, headspacing .45 ACP rounds on the case mouth while using the rim for .45 Colt cartridges. This dual caliber capability provides flexibility in ammunition selection without the need for a separate conversion cylinder.
