The Ruger LCR (Lightweight Compact Revolver) is a double action only revolver engineered specifically for concealed carry. Introduced in 2009, the LCR was designed from the ground up using modern materials and manufacturing processes rather than adapting a traditional revolver architecture. The fire control housing is a one-piece polymer unit that contains the trigger mechanism and provides the serialized frame component. The upper portion of the frame is a monolithic aluminum forging that mates to the polymer housing and supports the stainless steel barrel and cylinder assembly. This hybrid construction results in a revolver weighing approximately 17 ounces unloaded. The LCR uses a patented friction reducing cam fire control system that produces a smooth, consistent trigger pull throughout its travel. The revolver is equipped with a replaceable front sight pinned into the barrel shroud and a fixed rear sight machined into the frame. The .327 Federal Magnum chambering is notable for providing six rounds in a frame size where most comparable revolvers hold only five, as the .327 Federal Magnum cartridge operates at higher pressures in a smaller case diameter. The cylinder also accepts .32 H&R Magnum, .32 S&W Long, and .32 S&W cartridges.
