The Ruger Gunsite Scout is a bolt action rifle developed in collaboration with the Gunsite Academy, based on Colonel Jeff Cooper's scout rifle concept. The rifle is built on Ruger's controlled feed M77 action with a Mauser type claw extractor and fixed blade ejector, providing reliable extraction and positive ejection. The action incorporates a three position wing safety on the bolt shroud. A forward mounted Picatinny rail on the barrel allows mounting of long eye relief scout optics in keeping with the Cooper doctrine, and the receiver is also drilled and tapped for conventional rear mounted scope bases. The rifle feeds from a detachable box magazine compatible with both steel and polymer Ruger magazines, as well as M14/M1A pattern magazines. The cold hammer forged barrel is fitted with a flash suppressor on the threaded muzzle. 

This example is the gray/black laminate stock configuration with a matte stainless steel barrel and action. The laminate stock features an adjustable length of pull via buttpad spacers and a soft rubber buttpad. Sights consist of an adjustable ghost ring rear sight paired with a protected blade front sight. Accompanied by three 10 round detachable box magazines (one steel, two polymer) and an additional Ruger RU-5000R-N XS Sights long Picatinny rail with integrated peep sight, no original box included.
