The Desert Eagle Mark XIX is a large frame semi automatic pistol originally developed by Magnum Research and manufactured using a unique gas operated rotating bolt system. Unlike most semi automatic pistols that use a short recoil tilting barrel, the Desert Eagle uses a fixed barrel and rifle style gas system which allows the platform to reliably operate with powerful cartridges such as the .50 Action Express.

Chambered in .50 AE, the Mark XIX represents the most recognizable configuration of the Desert Eagle platform. The pistol features full steel construction with a 6 inch barrel and detachable single stack magazine designed specifically for the .50 AE cartridge. As found on modern production Mark XIX pistols, an integral Picatinny style rail is integrated along the top of the barrel assembly for optics or accessory mounting.
