Marlin 336D .35 Remington, 18.5" Ported Barrel, JM Marked
The Marlin Model 336 is a lever action rifle manufactured by Marlin Firearms Company in North Haven, Connecticut. Introduced in 1948, the 336 evolved from the earlier Model 1893 and Model 36 designs, incorporating a round bolt with improved lockup geometry and a redesigned lever mechanism. The 336 uses a side ejection system that clears the top of the receiver, allowing straightforward scope mounting on the solid top receiver. The 336 platform became one of the most widely produced lever action sporting rifles in the United States, with production spanning over five decades at the original North Haven facility. Rifles produced at this plant are identified by the "JM" proof stamp on the barrel, denoting the initials of company founder John Marlin.
This example is a Model 336D chambered in .35 Remington with an 18.5 inch ported barrel bearing the JM proof mark. The .35 Remington is a medium bore cartridge introduced in 1906, widely regarded as one of the most capable lever action cartridges for heavy cover hunting of deer, black bear, and similarly sized game at woods ranges. The rifle is fitted with a checkered walnut stock and forend, a semi buckhorn rear sight with blade front sight, and a push button cross bolt safety. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting. No original box or accessories included.
