The POSP 8x42 is a fixed power military pattern riflescope manufactured in Belarus, derived from the same optical lineage as the PSO-1 scope used on the SVD Dragunov. The POSP series expanded on the original PSO-1 concept by offering a range of magnifications, objective lens sizes, and mounting configurations to suit platforms beyond the SVD. The 8x42 variant provides 8x fixed magnification through a 42mm objective lens, delivering strong light gathering for low light shooting conditions. The optical system incorporates a range finding reticle with stadia lines calibrated for range estimation based on known target dimensions, following the Soviet military optic design philosophy. A bullet drop compensation element is integrated into the reticle for holdover reference at extended distances. This variant features battery powered reticle illumination, allowing the reticle to be lit for improved visibility against dark backgrounds or in low light environments. The scope uses a sealed, nitrogen purged tube for fog and moisture resistance.
