The Kimber 84M Montana is a bolt action rifle designed as a lightweight mountain hunting platform, built on Kimber's 84M short action. The 84M action is a controlled round feed design with a Mauser type claw extractor and a mechanical ejector, paired with a three position Model 70 type wing safety that allows the bolt to be cycled with the safety in the middle position. The action is machined from stainless steel and the barrel is stainless steel with a sporter weight contour, keeping the complete rifle well under seven pounds. The Montana variant feeds from an internal box magazine with a blind floorplate, distinguishing it from some other 84M variants that use a hinged floorplate or detachable magazine. The receiver is drilled and tapped for scope mounting and ships without iron sights, intended to be used with a mounted optic. 

This example was manufactured by Kimber of Yonkers, New York, placing it in the earlier period of 84M production before Kimber relocated to Troy, Alabama. It is chambered in .308 Winchester with a 22 inch stainless steel sporter weight barrel. The stock is a blue-gray pillar bedded Kevlar/carbon fiber composite with a classic sporter profile, straight comb, and slim forend. Accompanied by original box, no additional accessories.
