The Glock 17 Gen 3 is a full size striker fired semi automatic pistol chambered in 9x19mm, originally developed by Glock GmbH in Austria as a military and law enforcement sidearm. The pistol operates on a short recoil, locked breech system utilizing a modified Browning cam lock barrel. The Gen 3 iteration introduced the integral accessory rail forward of the trigger guard, finger grooves on the front strap, and a thumb rest on each side of the frame. The Glock 17 uses Glock's Safe Action system, a partially pre-cocked striker mechanism with three passive safeties: a trigger safety, firing pin safety, and drop safety. The polymer frame and steel slide construction yields a low unloaded weight, and the full size grip accommodates a standard double stack 17-round magazine in 9mm.
