Franchi 48AL 28 Gauge, Semi Automatic Shotgun
The Franchi 48AL is a long recoil operated semi-automatic shotgun introduced in 1948 and produced in Italy by Luigi Franchi. The design is mechanically derived from John Browning’s Auto-5 system, using the same long recoil principle in which the barrel and bolt travel rearward together before cycling the next shell. The 48AL became well known for combining this proven operating system with a lightweight aluminum receiver, resulting in a shotgun that is notably lighter and easier to carry than most autoloaders of its era.
This example is chambered in 28 gauge and fitted with a 26 inch barrel with improved cylinder choke. The shotgun features a walnut stock and fore-end with a 14.25 inch length of pull. It feeds from a tubular magazine beneath the barrel and maintains the streamlined profile characteristic of the 48AL series. No original box or accessories included.
