The Colt Gold Cup Trophy is a competition oriented variant of the Government Model 1911, chambered here in .38 Super. The pistol operates on a short recoil, locked breech system with a Series 70 firing mechanism, utilizing a single action trigger without the Series 80 firing pin block. The Gold Cup lineage dates to the 1950s when Colt developed a target grade version of the 1911 platform, and the modern Trophy iteration continues that tradition with a 5 inch National Match barrel, wide adjustable bomar style rear sight, fiber optic front sight, and an enhanced trigger pull. The frame features an undercut trigger guard, upswept beavertail grip safety, and a single side extended thumb safety.
