The Colt Gold Cup National Match is the factory accurized variant of the Government Model 1911, produced for competitive target shooting. Introduced as the Gold Cup in 1957, Colt continued to refine the platform through the Series 70 generation beginning in 1970, incorporating the MK IV designation and a collet style barrel bushing designed to improve barrel lockup and accuracy. These pistols were built on the standard Government Model frame and slide with a series of precision enhancements intended to improve mechanical accuracy and trigger quality for bullseye competition. The slide is machined to a flat top profile to accept a Colt Eliason adjustable rear sight, providing precise windage and elevation correction for target work. The barrel is a hand fitted National Match barrel paired with the Series 70 collet bushing to improve lockup and shot to shot consistency. The trigger is an adjustable wide target trigger allowing take up and overtravel adjustment. The front strap is serrated to provide a positive grip surface, paired with a serrated, flat mainspring housing.

This example was manufactured in 1978 and is configured with checkered walnut grips with Colt medallion inlays. The pistol is finished in Colt's high polish blued finish characteristic of Colt's premium production during this period. Accompanied by one magazine, original hang tag, and original serial matched box with styrofoam insert and manual.
