Colt M1911A1 .45 ACP, Manufactured 1942

The Model 1911A1 represents the standard U.S. service pistol of World War II, with Colt production in 1942 reflecting the transition into full wartime manufacturing following U.S. entry into the conflict. Early 1942 production examples are noted for their combination of parkerized finish and checkered small parts prior to later simplifications.

This particular example falls within early to mid 1942 production. The slide is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” on the left side and “M1911A1 U.S. ARMY” on the right. The frame is marked with the “WB” inspection mark of Colonel Waldemar S. Broberg, along with a “G” marking and the correct “P” proof near the magazine release. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with the Colt “VP” proof and inspection stamp.

The slide retains the matching serial number correctly stamped under the firing pin retainer, with corresponding ghost marks on the underside of the firing pin retainer. The underside of the slide is marked with a “G.” The pistol is fitted with the correct early rounded profile front sight and early “U notch” rear sight. Furthermore, it features a checkered wide spur hammer, short checkered trigger, checkered slide stop, checkered thumb safety, and checkered magazine release. The mainspring housing is also the correct checkered pattern with integral lanyard loop.

The barrel is marked “COLT 45 AUTO” beneath the chamber and shows a “G” stamp forward of the locking lug. The pistol is fitted with correct Colt grips without reinforcing ribs. This example is accompanied by two magazines and a “US” stamped holster.
