Browning Double Automatic 12 Gauge, 23" Barrel, Weaver Choke, MFG Circa 1955

The Browning Double Automatic is a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun designed by Val Browning. Unlike the long recoil system found in the Auto-5 family, the Double Automatic uses a short recoil operating system. It feeds through a loading port on the left side of the receiver, carrying one shell in the chamber and a second on the loading port carrier for a two-round capacity. The steel-receiver Double Automatic is distinguished from the later Twelvette variant, which substituted a lightweight alloy receiver to reduce overall weight while sharing the same short recoil mechanism and side-loading configuration.

This example is chambered in 12 gauge with a 2 3/4 inch chamber and features the standard steel receiver with a blued finish and a blued steel 23-inch barrel. The barrel is marked "Browning Arms Company St. Louis MO" and is fitted with an adjustable Weaver Choke and front bead sight. Length of pull measures 14.25 inches. The shotgun wears a walnut stock and fore-end. No additional accessories included.
