Browning BLR 81 .257 Roberts, 20 Inch Barrel, MFG 1983
The Browning BLR is a lever action rifle distinguished from traditional lever action designs by its use of a geared rack and pinion lever mechanism that operates a rotating bolt head, providing the lock up strength necessary to safely chamber modern high pressure cartridges. The BLR feeds from a detachable box magazine rather than a tubular magazine, allowing the use of spitzer bullets without concern for primer contact between stacked cartridges. The trigger travels with the lever during the cycling stroke rather than remaining stationary in the receiver. The BLR 81 designation refers to the updated version introduced in 1981, which replaced the original BLR introduced in 1969.
This example is chambered in .257 Roberts with a 20 inch barrel and bears a PX serial date code indicating 1983 manufacture, as well as a 227 serial suffix denoting a BLR 81 Short Action. The front sight is a gold bead blade, though rear sight is installed. A Browning scope base is installed on the receiver. The rifle is fitted with a checkered walnut straight grip stock and a checkered walnut forend. Accompanied by one detachable box magazine, no original box or accessories included.
