Browning Auto 5 Twenty 20 Gauge, Belgian Manufacture, 27.5" Ventilated Rib Barrel, MFG 1959

The Browning Auto 5, designed by John Moses Browning, is a long recoil operated semi-automatic shotgun manufactured by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Herstal, Belgium. The Auto 5 uses a long recoil action in which the barrel and bolt travel rearward together the full length of the receiver under recoil. The barrel then returns forward first, extracting and ejecting the spent shell, followed by the bolt stripping a fresh round from the magazine. The 20 gauge Auto 5 was introduced in 1958 as the "Twenty," a standard weight 20 gauge model identified by the "Twenty" marking on the top left side of the receiver. The Auto 5 Twenty features the characteristic humpback receiver profile and a friction ring recoil system that allows the action to be tuned for different load weights.

This example is a Belgian manufactured Auto 5 Twenty chambered in 20 gauge with a 2 3/4 inch chamber, manufactured in 1959. It is fitted with a 27.5 inch ventilated rib barrel with a front bead sight, marked "Made in Belgium". The shotgun features a round knob walnut stock and forend with a gloss finish, and a gold finished trigger. The length of pull measures 14.25 inches. No original box or accessories included.
