Browning Auto-5 12 Gauge, Manufactured 1938, Two Barrel Set, Browning Leather Case

The Browning Auto-5 is a long recoil operated semi automatic shotgun designed by John Browning and manufactured by Fabrique Nationale (FN) in Herstal, Belgium beginning in 1903. Production at FN continued until the German occupation of Belgium in 1940, when manufacturing was interrupted for the duration of World War II. FN resumed production of the Auto-5 after the war.

This example was manufactured in 1938 and is chambered in 12 gauge. It is accompanied by two barrels, both with 2 3/4 inch chambers and front bead sights. The first is a 30 inch barrel with fixed Full choke and no rib, stamped with a serial number matching the receiver. The second is a 28 inch barrel with fixed Improved Cylinder choke and a solid rib. The receiver features scroll engraving throughout and is marked on the left side "BROWNING ARMS COMPANY ST LOUIS MO." The shotgun is fitted with a walnut pistol grip stock and a finger groove forend, both with cut checkering. The safety is a sliding type located at the front of the trigger guard. The shotgun is cased in a Browning branded leather briefcase with fur interior. The briefcase has a small puncture on the lid, currently patched/concealed with tape and a sticker.
