The Beretta AL391 Teknys is a premium variant of the AL391 Urika platform, a gas operated semi automatic shotgun built around Beretta's self compensating gas system. This system uses a transverse piston and a pair of exhaust valves located forward of the chamber to automatically regulate gas pressure, allowing the action to cycle reliably across a wide range of loads from light target shells through heavy magnum rounds without manual adjustment. The Teknys also incorporates Beretta's self cleaning gas system, which channels exhaust gases to blow carbon fouling off the piston and gas cylinder during each firing cycle, reducing maintenance intervals. The AL391 Optima Teknys designation identifies models equipped with the Optima Bore Plus barrel system, which features an overbored barrel with a lengthened forcing cone and accepts Optima Choke Plus extended choke tubes. The Optima Bore Plus system was designed to reduce felt recoil and improve pattern consistency over the earlier Optima Bore configuration. The Teknys is distinguished from the standard Urika by its XTRA grade walnut stock and forend, silver finished receiver with engraved medallions, gold trigger, and Gel Tek recoil pad.

This example is chambered in 12 gauge with a 3 inch chamber and is fitted with a 28 inch Optima Bore Plus barrel with a stepped ventilated rib and front fiber optic sight.
