The Beretta A390 is a gas operated semi-automatic shotgun introduced in 1992 as the successor to the A303. The A390 operates on Beretta's self-compensating gas system, which uses a pair of stainless steel exhaust valves located on the magazine tube forward of the chamber to regulate gas pressure automatically. This system allows the action to cycle reliably with loads ranging from light 2 3/4 inch target shells through 3 inch magnum rounds without manual adjustment. The A390 is built on an aluminum alloy receiver with a rotating bolt head that locks into the barrel extension. The A390 was later succeeded by the AL390, which incorporated a lighter weight magazine tube and magazine cap along with other refinements, but the two models share the same fundamental operating system and receiver design.

This example is the Silver Mallard model, the standard field grade of the A390, featuring a black anodized receiver with scroll engraving. It is chambered in 12 gauge with a 3 inch chamber and is fitted with a 28 inch barrel with a ventilated rib and front bead sight. The barrel is threaded for Beretta MobilChoke tubes with an Improved Modified choke tube installed. The stock and forend are checkered walnut with a satin finish.
