The Beretta AL390 is a gas operated semi-automatic shotgun introduced in 1992 as the successor to the A303. The AL390 operates on Beretta's self-compensating gas system, which uses a pair of stainless steel exhaust valves located on the magazine tube forward of the chamber to regulate gas pressure automatically. This system allows the action to cycle reliably with loads ranging from light 2 3/4 inch target shells through 3 inch magnum rounds without manual adjustment. The AL390 is built on a lightweight aluminum alloy receiver with a rotating bolt head that locks into the barrel extension.

This example is the Gold Mallard model, the premium field variant of the AL390. The receiver features a black anodized finish with detailed floral engraving on both sides, gold inlaid bird engravings, a gold inlaid "P. Beretta MADE IN ITALY" marking on the right side, and a jeweled bolt. The Gold Mallard is fitted with a gloss finished walnut stock and forend. It is chambered in 12 gauge with a 3 inch chamber and is fitted with a 28 inch barrel with a ventilated rib and front bead sight. The barrel is threaded for Beretta MobilChoke tubes. The length of pull measures 14.25 inches. Accompanied by three MobilChoke tubes (Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full), choke tool, and original box.
