The Astra Model 44 is a large frame, double action/single action revolver chambered in .44 Remington Magnum, manufactured by Astra-Unceta y Cía in Guernica, Spain, and imported into the United States by Interarms of Alexandria, Virginia. The Model 44 was built on a heavy carbon steel frame with a solid top rib, producing a robust platform suited to the pressures of .44 Magnum cartridges. The Model 44 gained a reputation as a solidly built, affordable alternative to its American contemporaries such as the Smith & Wesson Model 29 and Ruger Redhawk.

The "Terminator" designation identifies examples that were shortened to a 2 3/4 inch barrel by John Jovino Gun Shop in New York City. The Model 44 was imported with a longer barrel to satisfy U.S. importation point requirements, and Jovino subsequently cut and re-finished the barrel domestically to create the compact Terminator configuration. Terminator examples are fitted with a pinned red ramp front sight and a fully adjustable rear sight, and were equipped with Pachmayr Compac textured rubber wrap around grips to manage recoil in the shortened platform. These compact .44 Magnum revolvers are uncommon and represent a notable piece of firearms import history. This example features a deep blued finish throughout, with the hammer and trigger finished in a contrasting straw colored case hardening. No original box or accessories included.
