Steyr Model 1912 (Steyr Hahn) 9x23mm Steyr, MFG 1916, Numbers Matching

The Steyr Model 1912, commonly known as the Steyr Hahn (referring to its exposed hammer), is a single action semi automatic pistol designed by Karel Krnka and manufactured by Österreichische Waffenfabriks Gesellschaft (later Steyr Werke) in Steyr, Austria. Adopted by the Austro Hungarian military as the Repetierpistole M.12, the pistol served as the primary sidearm of Austro Hungarian forces during World War I and continued in widespread military service through World War II. The Model 1912 operates on a short recoil system utilizing a rotating barrel lock, in which the barrel rotates approximately 20 degrees during recoil to unlock from the slide. A distinctive feature of the design is its fixed internal magazine, which is loaded from the top of the open slide using 8 round stripper clips rather than employing a detachable box magazine. The pistol is chambered in the proprietary 9x23mm Steyr cartridge, a powerful round developed specifically for this platform. The all steel construction, milled from forgings, gives the pistol a robust and solid feel. Controls include a manual safety on the left side of the frame and an exposed hammer.

This example is marked "Steyr 1916" on the left side of the slide, indicating manufacture in 1916 during the height of World War I Austro Hungarian military production. Serial numbers are matching on the frame, slide, and barrel. No additional accessories included.
