The Glock 19 Gen 3 is a compact striker fired semi automatic pistol chambered in 9mm, manufactured by Glock Ges.m.b.H. in Austria. The Gen 3 designation indicates the third generation of the Glock design, which introduced finger grooves on the front of the grip, an accessory rail molded into the dust cover, and a thumb rest on either side of the frame. The pistol operates on a short recoil, locked breech system using a modified Browning cam lock design with a rectangular breech lockup. The Glock 19 occupies the compact size within the Glock lineup, utilizing a shorter slide and grip than the full size Glock 17 while maintaining compatibility with Glock 17 magazines.
